I now have both sides planked and glued. Tomorrow it’s time to trim and plain the edges and do it all over again on the second layer. Hoping to get the second layer planked and glued by the end of the weekend. After that I will work on the recessed trim tabs in the transom before I start the glassing and fairing process. Here are a few pics.
I wish I had the knowledge, skill, and patience to do something like that! Great work so far!

Just wanted to say, it looks GREAT!!! and thanks for letting us follow along…
I just wish I could keep my garage lookin that good…
AWESOME!
Well made a little more progress. Got the second layer planked and laminated. This took a little longer than expected but turned out great and solid as a rock. Now a little sanding to fine tune the keel and chine lines and fabricate the trim tab recesses and it will be time for glass. After a couple layers of that the real fun begins, Fairing! Haha.
Nice pics keep us posted!! Bad A$$ boat cant wait to see the final pics!! You from Charleston???
Need floors?? Just ask!!!

That is nice looking work. A lot more time and energy goes into one that size than the cedar strip canoes that I used to build.

Mr. King,
Im actually from the Charlotte area but do all of my fishing out of Charleston.
USMCsilver,
It will definitely be a one of a kind flats boat with the carolina style lines. Its been pretty trick to get everything to make the extreme bends and curves but it should be down hill from here. I wish everyone could see and feel a wood boat at this stage. This thing is so solid it blows my mind. I feel like I could roll it down a hill and not worry a bit.
that is incredible. Nothing rides like wood. That rig is going to be smooth and quiet. I am very impressed.

If you think a cold molded boat is fun to fair out, you should try fairing a strip plank boat. Now THAT is a joy! LOL
Another update. Almost done with the trim tab recesses. A little more shaping and sanding and they will be ready for glass with the rest of the boat.
We started on the glassing process today. As hot as it is right now, we are forced to do it in smaller chunks resulting in more steps with sanding but its a pretty crucial time in the build plus the neater the glass work, the easier the fairing will be. The bottom and sides will get two coats of the 1208 cloth.
That is a real display of craftsmanship. Wow!
Scout put that bow on their Costa series flats boat. I’ve got the 170 and love that big flaired bow/deck. Two people can fish on the front deck without getting in the others way.

Thanks for the comments. Things are really taking off now. Im starting on an inshore 21’ carolina style bay boat in a few weeks. Iv had to make the investment in a shop for more space and more adequate equipment which I will have in a few weeks. Next week im heading to the Keys for a small vacation before things get hectic but when I get back I should have tons of updates.
That is awesome; great job! I’ve restored a 36’ Cubavich and a 36’ Breuil with a lot of epoxy and elbow grease but never anything from scratch…thanks for the photos and please keep it coming.
More glass… more sanding…
Excellent! Very clean work. That always saves you time in the long run.
For the new boat (21’ inshore) what system are you going to use; cold mould or stitch and glue?
Tyoneon,
The 21’ will be a cold molded boat. All of our boats in the future will take after this same construction process. The 21’ will be finished off very similar with teak flooring and toe rail, simrad electronics, suzuki 175 4-stroke, and finished with alexseal etheral blue on the hull.
Thanks for the interest.
