Anybody target carp with your fly rod and care to share which flies are productive? I heard nymphs and wooly buggers work.
I know some of y’all are laughing about chasing carp…I heard they’ll take you striaght into the backing. Wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t give it a try.
ive caught them on a yellow or white poppingbug.just throw infront of the fish and dont pop it.i guess it looks like a bread ball and they do eat it.
You might try searching on the Florida Sportsman Flyfishing forum. I have seen a lot of posts there about flyfishing for carp.

Rubber Legged Dragon’s seem to work best for me. Clousers as well. The big thing to remember is that Carp are not visual feeders…and since you are using a fly you have to sight cast for them and put the fly in front of them so that they suck it up during their feeding.
Below is a good picture of a friend of mine with a nice carp he stuck with a clouser on a river down in GA.
You have to remember that there are two types of carp. The grass carp won’t readily take a fly. They tend to be bigger and the main way you can tell is that they don’t have barbels. THe common carp tails like a redfish. I have caught them using rubber legged nymphs in black, brown, yellow. I tie them with small tungston dumbell eyes so they sink fast but don’t plink hard when they are cast. Sightfishing to carp is a ton fun.
I am moving to charleston next week, so hopefully I will do more of the real deal (redfishing). But we practiced up on the catawba chain of reservoirs by poling and fishing to carp.
Check out www.carolinabonefishing.com THis guy is a carp guide and he does know his stuff.
BTW if you know where some carp tail and you want to go let me know.
toothlesblue.i saw 6 grass carp tailin 2day before i stuck a arrow through them so i believe they tail also.they were 40 to 50lb and im not shur but i dont think that the commons get that big or do they?
carp = freshwater redfish when it comes to the fight. Get ready for several long runs!
toothlessblue you from the Fort Mill area?
I had a carp eat a fly the other night while I was fishing for bream in the ponds in my back yard. I was using my roomates gear so I couldnt tell you the name of the fly, but it was the size of a rice grain. This fish ate it on purpose too, I did not site cast to him. Fun catch though, he was only 5lbs not to big.
Ive had luck on pale glo bugs/ steelhead egg patterns
