Carp

Hooked up with one 15lb+. I set the hook right when he realized he was hooked and the pressure was too much popping the tippet. Olive green bass streamer looks like a clump of algae. Fixing to try them again.

We call that the “Grass Hatch”

Coordinate fishing with when the grounds crew cuts the grass around the bank.

Is there any grass carp trapped in ponds or something around charleston? Is it possible? I would love to catch one of these

There are plenty of places in charleston with them. Atleast in MTP anyway. Ive caught grass carp and the common carp and the commons always fight better and are more willing to eat.

What flies do you use for carp? And weight? If you wouldn’t mind pm’in me a spot. I really really wanna catch a carp!

I’m with you Yakman72, I’m dying to catch a carp, have been skunked several times on the boat while chumming with creamed corn and cherry tomatoes hahaha . heard a lot of people up north catch big ems on with a T swivel with a 30 lb test leader and a 10 lb weight, since they tumble around like a catfish when caught. If anyone knows of a spot PM’in me as well. I’m in N CHS and will travel…better yet if anyone is a carp expert, I would love to tag along and learn.

Do you have a pic of that fly? Been seeing allot of monster carp in Lake Marion… Been wanting to try the cream corn chumming method but my goal would be to catch one on the fly. Anyone know of a good fly for Gar also?

If that’s all I have to worry about…there’s nothing to worry about.

Olive bugger for carp… Use panty hose I your fly design for carp, or the ol rope rig. Their teeth will get tangled and they will stay " buttoned". Gar fight like mad, as do the carp.

If you go to the sewee education center where the red wolves are, they will give you a printout of all the waters within the Francis maion nat forrest and what they are stocked with and managed for- some of these might have carp

I went out to that 12 acre pond I got permission to fish. Caught a decent bass on a bullfrog fly and saw plenty of grass carp tailing and cruising the surface. Guy told me to come back anytime and bring a bag of dog food, the carp out there love it.
