I am guessing I have put the boat in and out at least 400 times in the last 4 years so its time for some new carpet for the trailer. Can anyone suggest a good carpet? Home Depot or Lowes indoor / outdoor, or is that to rough on the gelcoat finish?

spray the carpet with Liquid Rollerz or similar silicone spray. mkes them very slick. keep boat hooked up until your ready. it will slide right off and keep wear on the carpet to a minimum.
quote:Monel staples are pretty much a thing of the past but Arrow now offers SS staples. They should be the staple of choice.
The Arrow SS staples are not 304 or 316 stainless and therefore they are inferior to monel. They will work, but it you can find monel, the are worth it.
Just redid mine using outdoor carpet from Lowes. They have Monel staples as does West Marine. Lowes was 16.00 and west marine was 24.00. Problem is they say not to be used with pressure treated lumber. I used the ss ones from lowes. Used almost 900 on 2 bunks. Drove them all with a hammer after installing with the gun. Use an electric stapler if you have one or can borrow one. If not its not that bad. Lowes sells the carpet in 6 & 12 ft widths. I bought 3’ x 12’ to cover (2) 2x6. cost about .50 per sq ft.
Ditch the carpet and put slicks on. I have ones that have been on for 12 years. Boat will be much easier to load and unload. The ones I have are 3" wide and came in 24" pieces. They are well worth it. They can be ordered form overtons or found sometimes at West Marine. One of my buddies bought some vinyl stripping from lowes and it was much cheaper than the slicks but not nearly as thick.
charleston rigging and marine hardware sells stainless steel roofing tacks by the pound. will outlast the carpet and outperform any staple.

Got slicks on mine as well, best leave it hooked up until you’re in the water. If you want to use carpet go to a carpet warehouse and ask if they have any seconds or remnants they’ll give you or sell you cheap. I did bunks for a guy and used copper nails, no problems.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
