Trying to decide if I want to get a 10ft net with 1lb weights or an 8ft net with 1.5lb weights. I throw both an 8ft and 10ft fine just trying not to get wore out. Would be used mainly while shrimp baiting/more shallow water. What’s the more beneficial trade off the heavier weights or the extra 2 feet? Thanks in advance for any advice and good luck this year!
There are a lot better cast net experts than me on this forum but I would throw the biggest net that you can throw well 75-80% of the time. A 10’ cast net has about 50% more area than an 8’ net so you will throw it less if you are on the shrimp.
I agree with Seahawk. Fishing over bait is much easier on my body than deep holing. you are shrimping in shallow water over bait, so the net is on the bottom relatively quickly. Bigger net allows you to hit the bait easier once the tide is ripping is an added bonus.
I always carry my 10’ 1lb/ft for low current and shallow water, as well as an 8’ 1.5ft for deeper water and/or current. I do catch more with the 10’ net usually.
