Hi,
Anyone able to suggest a few net casting locations on James Island or Folly (or nearby) to catch both finger and larger sized mullet?
I’m a newbie to net casting and I don’t have a boat so I am looking for easy to navigate locations where I should have some success. Any detailed guidance would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
There are the creeks going out to Folly at the new Barrel Bar. Both sides of the road are a popular spot. Not giving away any secrets there.
Sunrise Park, well that’s what it used to be called. Now it’s Peter Demetri or some such.
Check out Google Earth or Bing Maps. There are other spots.
If you are a newbie, go to these spots at dead low tide before you go casting all willy nilly. Chances are, you are going to find quite a lot of snags. Water is getting colder so you don’t want to have to go wading or swimming to retrieve your net. And for the love…Don’t leave your net if you get it snagged up!!!
I suggest going to Haddrels or Crosbys during the winter.
Narcosis
The creek that separates Grice Marine Lab from James Island Beach produces good sized mullet and mud minnows. Usually thins out as the weather starts to turn cold but you can catch stuff on the backside of the beach along the grass line.
