I just wanted to share my experience so far with Tim Wade. To put it simply, he is awesome. It is rare to find to find someone so knowledgable and willing to provide insight with their year’s of gained wisdom. I have heard nothing but good things about him and was not let down by any of my conversations with him. So after a couple days of questions and decision making, I decided to go with a 10’, 5/8" mesh net for deep holing. He has this new, for him, design, where he sews in some nylon above the weights. His years of experience lead him to believe this will work to keep the net as open as possible when it hits the bottom without impeding the ability to cast the net. I’m really excited about it and am looking forward to using it. He is also excited about this design and is eager to hear some real world results. If, for some reason, the net does not work out as planned, he will remove the added strips. Sounds like a win-win to me.
For those of you thinking ahead for next year and need a new net, I highly suggest you giving Tim a call. If for nothing else, his willingness to talk you through the process is definitely worth the time.
You can call him at 321-729-9537 (w) or 321-508-2836 (c). I have always been able to speak with him by using one of these two numbers. As for what he can make, I do not know there if there is a limit on size. I was initially interested in something in the 10’-12’ range and decided on the 10 footer. We spoke briefly about 14’ footers and I was not led to believe that he could not make one that size.
I’m sure those nets are fine. However, to speak one-on-one with the person making your net, goes a long way with me. I did a quick search on the Internet and found that baitbuster does not make a 5/8" net in a taped or sewn-in fashion. Calusa, fitec, and cracker nets were more than I paid. Put all of this together and you will understand why I chose to go with Tim Wade.
I have two of his nets, an 8’ and a 10’. Both are weighted ar 1.5 lbs. Per. Foot and have 5/8" mesh. I taped the nets myself and they are by far my best throwing nets, And they do catch shrimp in the deep holes. Tim is a very knowledgeable guy and will take time and talk with you. I have used Super Pros and Black Pearls and prefer Tim’s net over them. His nets are also priced reasonably. Try one, you will not be sorry.
