Cast net opinions

Ok so I haven’t baited shrimp for close to 7 years between the economy, 4 dogs,4 Daughters, a wife and restuarant and flooring installation business, life has been kinda crazy. With that said I’m back. Got my poles, boat, and some time. Looking forward to full coolers cold beer and just plain fun.
In your opinion which cast net is the best ??? Thanks for your opinions

Betts, 5 or 6 foot, or larger if you can handle it.

I would use 5/8 in mesh. Less sorting.

my troubles wash away when I’m on the water

just make sure you are comfortable throwing whatever net you use…I’d rather throw pancakes with a 6’ net than tacos with an 8’…

Tim Wade-best net I’ve ever owned.

What Bonzo said, remember you will throw it hundreds of times!

I just got my new net from Tim Wade. 7 ft, 5/8 in. mesh, 1 lb/ft custom hand-made net. Nice guy, asks you the questions so you get the net you need. I am stoked! Also not as expensive as a Calusa or Black Pearl. About the same as a Betts actually. You better order soon if you want it by opening day.

Agree with everyone the best net is a open net. So whatever you are comfortable with. I throw the betts 8’ sea green and love it. Youtube is your friend! Find a way that works for you and quick on the reload.

Perfect . thanks for all your help and guidance full coolers to everyone ,

I have a 10’ Tim Wade I had him make for me. It is a good net but is a lot of work to handle without a good first mate in the boat.

My favorite is honestly my 8’ 5/8 Betts Sea Green. Once it gets broken in I can throw it very easily rapid fire reloading down 10 poles with a good driver. I use a single loop (toothless) method that is an easy throw. The 10’ requires a 2nd loop and it takes much more effort to get it prepped.

I started about 5 years ago with a 6’. To me the 8’ is just as easy to throw as the 6’, but jumping to a 10’ was a huge difference.

I’m going to try the 6’ been so long, @ 54 yr’s probably best thing. Then maybe an 8’er. Will see. Thanks for your input.

When you want to step up to an 8 give Tim Wade a call. He can adjust the weight amount. I just ordered an 8 ft with 10 lbs of weight.
I’ve used a Tim Wade 10ft that I only break out of the shrimp are especially thick. Haven’t seen that for 3 years now.

I used to use Super Pro 1/2" x 6 ft. Good net

My last few have been Tim Wade 7 ft. nets. I had to get used to the big horn, but that helps the net open flat. 5/8" sinks faster and culls the shrimp.

I use a Betts Blue 6 ft. when freecasting in knee deep water.
