cast net weight

Im new to the shrimping this year and was wondering if anyone could give me some advise? Im going to get a 7’ Tim Wade cast net i was wondering whats a good weight for that net 1.25lb or 1.5lb per ft? thanks

Mine is 1.5 lb. I prefer the heavier one even if it wears you out quicker. Those shrimp scatter fast when they hear/feel the net hit the water.

I agree with Occams, my net is a 7’ Tim Wade and I like it a lot even though I have to take a beer break after 2 passes. (Ha Ha, imagine that!) It sinks fast, and is very durable! You’ll like it! 1.5 per ft sinks plenty fast even in fast current.

Beer break while shipping? I might have to try that!
