Cast net

I got a pleasant birthday surprise of a Tim Wade cast net from my better half.

While throwing it on my lawn, I noticed that it is somewhat stiff.

Will soaking it in water help? Any other pretreatment before I hit the water?

Looks like a great net.

Thanks,

LeisureLee

Soak it in a five gallon bucket with a load worth of fabric softener overnight. Then hang it and let it dry.

If you ask Tim Wade he does not recommend fabric softner or any harsh cleaners (per an article I read while Googling him). If the net is stiff it’s because it was ordered that way.
Give him a call and he may offer a solution.
The nets I received from him were limp and open easily.

Tim’s nets are the best you can buy.

Thanks FRIOGATTA.

I called Tim Wade last week concerning the stiffness of my net and he suggested the following options:

The first option is in the evening, spread the net on the lawn and using landscape pins (Lowe’s/Home Depot) stake the lead line so the net is taunt. Leave the net overnight until the dew settles on it. The knots will then slide and result in a limp net. (Keep two Dobermans outside that night)

The second option is to place the net in a black plastic bag with a quart of water and put it in the sun for a couple of hours. This also will result in a limp net.

I tried the first option and was surprised how limp the net was.

Tim also stated that he recommended NOT using fabric softener, bleach or soap as the have detrimental affects on the nylon.

After using the net in salt water, he recommended shaking the net in very hot tap water then a final rinse in tepid water and drying it before storing it.

Great guy to talk with. Very informative, courteous and helpful.

Tim Wade is the man!

Got several different nets, and Tim’s are the best.

Good guy to talk with also.
