Cast Nets

I’ve got 8’ and 10’ nets. Both have sustained some decent tears over the past few years. Anyone know of someone that can repair them? If not, I guess I’m in the market to buy a new 10-12’. How about some recommendations?

Dental floss will do a great job on them . just might take you some time. good luck

Second the dental floss, unwaxed variety.

Google Tim Wade down in Florida. Makes a great net at a good price.

fishing line works as well

My uncle fixed mine there not hard to fix

Before one feels elated and makes planes he must secure his “fish”

How do you fix the netting coming out of the horn

I used 10 pound mono fishing line to make repairs. Is time consuming though.

small tie wraps fast & easy

Net repair is an easy DIY job. I go over my main net B4 each night trip. I used to use mono, but even 10# leaves stiff tag ends that can snag the net. Dental floss is “snagless”. I sit in a chair, put the net over my knees, and rotate the net until I find holes, starting at the horn and working down. I use floss to “grab” undamaged net on either side (not top to bottom) of the hole and pull the hole closed. I tie several overhand knots, snugging them good, and clip the ends with fingernail clippers, leaving about a 1/4" tag end. Big holes might require several “stitches”. You lose a small amount of net area. I can have a bunch of these repairs on a net, and it does not seem to affect the net’s catching ability. Holes really affect the net’s catching effectiveness, as the shrimp somehow know right where the holes are. I usually order a new Tim Wade net every year, and use last year’s patched up net as backup.
