In my back yard I can cast it with a 2oz. weight 2 lots down but as soon as I’m in the surf it just is non stop backlash. Thought this was weird as I can cast it ANY other time. Any suggestions? All replies will be taken happily! Thanks!
Probabaly dont have bait on it in the yard that creates drag, or maybe overpowering the cast in the surf. Set more brakes and tension knob and then back down on them to find the sweet spot.
I find that in the surf (ie, wading out in the water) if I don’t pay attention I tend to try to throw “up” more than I do on flat ground and it can mess with my cast. takes a little practice to cast with the same motion while holding your rig higher than is natural!
If you’re throwing from the beach, you’re essentially casting “downhill” and that extra flight time at the end can mean a backlash that you wouldn’t get with the same settings on flat ground. use a little tighter brake than you would normally, or thumb the spool a little more during the last part of the flight to keep a tiny bit of tension in the line, especially with heavy weight+bait.
some things to pay attention to, at least. other than that, more time at the beach? just in case you needed an excuse!

Depth perception. Next time instead of casting into water try casting down the beach. Sometimes without a “target” our eyes fool us and we over/under compensate the cast
makes a difference casting in windy conditions as well
