Casting Nets

Is there a certain size casting net that have to use to catch bait fish and/or shrimp? I have a 5ft net but was told by a friend that it has to be a 6ft net. I am new to saltwater fishing so I just want to make sure I am falling the law. I just purchased a 2015 Carolina Skiff, my first boat, so don’t want it to be taken away.

Thanks

Unless you are catching shrimp over bait you can use any size net with any size mesh.

5 or 6 seem to be the most popular size, easier to throw.

As long as its catching the bait you want don’t worry about the size. When bait is scarce a bigger net helps…
it covers more area which can also mean snags. Throw what you have until you feel sure you need an upgrade.

My personal choice is a old salt 3/8" mesh, 6 foot. They are heavy enough, open fairly easy, and easy to throw. I like a bait net with 18 tuck lines, instead of 12. Opinions are like A-- holes most everyone has one?
