Just wondering if anyone would like to practice some fly casting now that the holidays are in the past, the evenings are getting a bit longer, and the weather seems to be warming up. I remember some interest in an earlier post, but I just didn’t have the time to follow up with anybody. I gave the long rod a shot this past saturday on the Stono but my skills were no match for the wind.
I would love to, however I am about 700 miles away! Sorry.
Try to get out on a piece of grass and practice individual strokes to the front and back. Try to work on your rod and moreso TIP control. I try to avoid practicing in the wind until you have a solid stroke and tempo. The point of beating the wind is to NOT change your stroke too much. Many casters make the WORST casts at the WORST times…when the wind blows. So, don’t overmuscle, over swing, over stroke…you get the picture. More tip control, shorter stroke and keep it crisp. Then…take it to the water!
