Castnets...

Which seem to be the better brands? I have a Betts High Tide and it’s softer and throws(spreads) better than the one my friend has which is a no name (well it’s not printed on it). Mine has seen its better days and it’s time to replace it just curious on some ■■■■■■■■ of a good net that doesnt cost 100$ Thanks in advance!

I have priced some of the better quality one Calusa, Fitec and a couple other and they want and an arm and a leg. I just stay with the Betts line and keep it around 60 bucks. Maybe someone else can point us in the right direction.

Wicked fishing

I use a Betts, but only after we soak it in downy / water mix. it softens the net up real nice.

Tim Wade makes a great net
Google his name.
Made down in Florida.
More expensive than Wallyworld or Westmarooned, but you can have it custom made to exactly what you want.
Netting is much softer/limp and doesnt try to jump out of the bucket.

1 cup softner in as much water as it takes to cover the net (1 1/2 to 2 gal). Put the kneck of the net in the bucket first, then the body and finally use the weights to hold the net down. Esentially, your putting the net in upside down.

Might just be but I feel like yall are overly-complicating it. I usr a wallyworld or similiar net for bait throwing and a $100 or so Betts net for shrimping. I’d never spend more than like 12/50$ for a cast net, one bad throw and its shredded

Haddrells sells one call Tyzac…6 ft 3/8 mesh… $40-50… It does not leave marks on your deck when dumping the net out.

Betts Tyzac Cast Net, use to catch bait at the folly pier. with all the features of an expensive net, but at an affordable price.

I think most people use a 6’ 3/8 mesh for catching bait. I’m with yakman, don’t buy an expensive one just to catch bait with. It only takes one bad toss on an oyster rake and its done.
