Ok, is a skipjack the same as a bonito? I’ve heard people call what I consider a Bonito (little football) a skipjack. I’ve eaten a few Bonito and if they are filleted while still flopin, they aint so bad, actually pretty good put on a hot skillet with some sesame seed oil and after dipped in a little wasabee.
Lowcountryboy… that looks fantastic.
Fred, Yes Skipjack and Bonita are one and the same.

Skippies and Bonito are technically 2 different fish, but most people use the term “Bonita” to apply to Skipjack, False Albacore (Little Tunnys/Fat Alberts) and Bonitos.

I thought skipjack (part of the tuna family) were good table fare while bonita (little tunny, fat albert, etc) are part of the mackerel family and not good eating?

You would be correct. They aren’t even close to the same fish lol

Thanks for the info guys.
NorthChucky is correct. They are very different fish. Bonito aka little tunny is good bait and chum but horrible to eat. Skipjack is 99% of tuna sold in cans at the grocery. When done properly at home, it is a gourmet feast.

Bonito:
Tell me that is the same fish…
