cat

been meaning to post this but was fishing a week ago with a friend of mine in bushy park we took a left out of the boat landing and sat at the mouth of a creek and something big nailed my line, and i went on a ride it was a 12 pound blue catfish just wanted to know if that was normal caught him on shrimp

normal for what?

Blues are aggressive. They put up a good fight. A 12 lber is not a monster by any means, but it’s gonna give you a good fight on light tackle, which is what I’m sure you were using.

I spent my teenage years targeting that species.

ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

oh, i just realized you were in a KAYAK. whoah, buddy. that would have been fun.

Yeah, cat’s like shrimp. they eat just about anything. People think they need stinky stuff because cats are practically blind, but that’s not the case. I never had luck with any of those stinky baits.

I targeted 30-80+ lbers as a youth with live bait.

ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

i thought that the salt water side of bushy was just salt though no fresh water. Im just wonder but im wrong

Never caught a freshwater cat in saltwater, but I’ve caught plenty of flounder almost to the dam up the river in Fresh…and I know a lot of species go between, to include some sharks, so that may be the case. Especially at a point where the water changes.

There are quite a few spots to catch blue cats on the saltwater side. I don’t kayak but when I fish out of Bushy Park I usually stop at a spot on my way back to the landing and drop a line for cats while I organize the boat. I’ve caught them as far down as the entrance to Clouter and acroos the Cooper just a short ways up Goose Creek.
