Are pinfish traps legal?
I was told by an LEO they are NOT legal in SC. They are OK in Florida.

Make some chum and chum where you know they are and throw a net on them, or sabiki them if you can throw a net.
I’ve seen traps for sale at Acadamy! But it is unlawfull to use them for pinfish in S.C.
This time of year your only bet is a saltwater pond.
Really small hooks with a piece of cut shrimp.
I tried several places without much luck, including the bridge and county dock in Shem, Mt P pier, etc. One deeper dock did have a few. And I got a few more bait at the 60. But it was tougher than when water was warmer.
Shrimp was little mushy and hard to keep on sabiki hooks. Will try bits of squid next time… when grouper season reopens.

During the summertime the mount pleasant pier is loaded…

Have always caught them off the pier at Demetre Park on James Island but during the warmer months.
I caught alot of them at the charleston 60 this time last year
If you are targeting Pinfish, make sure to only use a small piece of shrimp or squid. You’ll loose a lot of bait if you use a whole shrimp or big chunk of squid.
live and let live
A piece of mullet or other fish skin…a little tiny piece…it’ll stay on forever and you’ll catch as many as you want if they’re there

Use small strips fresh shrimp on size 4 sabiki. Have used this method catch them by the dozens near any structure in shem creek.
