Catching snapper blues--- fatback for bait?

Before y’all laugh, keep in mind what pork tails for spinnerbaits are made of. I was taught by an old timer that small pieces of white ■■■■■■■ (salted pork fat) make great bluegill/panfish bait.

He’s right, when I fish small ponds, I occasionally take small 1/4" chunks with me and just fish it on a split shot. I’ve caught 24 bluegill on the same piece.

Tomorrow, if the weather allows, we’re going to try this for bluefish. I’m going to cut the ■■■■■■■ into 1.5" strips and put them on either a treble hook or a #2 j-hook. Maybe a jig head instead.

Wanna see if the blues will hit it without shredding it.

I have caught flounder on just cooked steak fat. Go catch them up

Matt, Go with the jig heads and not the treble hooks(pain in the ass to remove with all of those teeth).we caught them last month at the north tip of castle pinkney on the outgoing tide. follow the birds.
try some topwater… it’s a blast.
Good luck.

Fat back makes excellent cheap bait for sea bass, they will hit the same piece twenty times.

Pork has great action in the water when it is a little warm too.
