Catching Some Convicts and Slot Redfish Report

Tide: High-Out Going Tide
Weather: Hardly any wind, temperatures were in the 70s. Hardly a cloud in the sky.
Bait: Fiddler Crabs, 1/8 oz jig heads, shrimp pro cure, bass assassin paddle tails (electric chicken)
Areas: Downed trees for sheepshead and black drum. Marsh lines for redfish and trout.

I made the trip to fish with Beaufort SC Fishing and we decided to target sheepshead, redfish, and trout. I picked up some fiddler crabs and headed down to Beaufort for a beautiful day on the water. We fished the outgoing tide but got there right after high tide.

The water was pushed really far back into the grass so we decided to wait it out and hit some downed trees in a nearby creek and let the tide fall out. After a few attempts of position in the downed trees, the sheepshead bite was pretty hot. We all missed a few sheepshead and one of the guys one the trip was hooked into a good one before it got off. There was also a black drum caught that was 15 inches and 1 keeper sheepshead. We left the sheepshead biting to go try for some redfish.

As soon as we started casting the grass line the bite was hot. Beaufort SC Fishing landed a 16 inch trout on the first cast. I hooked what I am pretty sure was a red before getting the hooked popped out and stuck on some oysters. I followed that up with a 22 inch redfish on a 1/8 oz eye strike jig head and a 4 inch bass assassin, electric chicken paddle tail which was topped off with some pro cure. Within a few casts I was hooked into another redfish and it felt like a really good one. It made several long runs and I was thinking this may be over slot and could be a PB. I will let you watch the video to figure out what happened but it’s pretty funny.

That concluded my catching for the day as I then proceeded to donate some jig heads to a few different oyster beds. Beaufort SC Fishing landed a few more fish including a really, really nice over slot fish. I won’t ruin that until he releases his video sometimes in the next day or so.
