Catfish in Quinby

Anyone ever caught any cats in the Quinby?

I have caught lots of them there. One of my favorite spots is on The E. branch under the power lines. Also a good way to catch 2-5 pounders is to find a break in the rice fields on a falling tide. Fish cut bait or worms on either side. I would recommend at least 12 lb test line. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. I normally use 12 lb test 40 lb leader carolina rig. I will hit this weekend.

Just curious, but why would you fish a 40 lb leader on a carolina rig with 12 lb main line? I always use a leader that’s either the same lb test as my main line, or maybe a touch less.

i’m use to fishing saltwater where a you have to deal with more hard structure like oysters and rocks. Alot can happen on that end of the line.

The one in the pic i caught in the Santee in Jamestown. I hit the Quinby saturday in the canoe about 2 hrs before the storms. Spent the 1st hour catching bream then coasted through about 20 kayakers on my way to the east branch. Picked out a spot and dropped my cut bream in the water. After about 15 minutes one of my rods bent over. Pulled in a 8 lb mudfish. Shortly after letting the mudfish go another rod started getting a bite. I slowly reeled it and set the circle hook and pulled in a 6 lb blue. Put him on the stringer and within 2 minutes my rod set closest to the canoe bent over. I jumped up and grabbed it doing my best Barney Fife impersonation and the big fish zinged to the other side of the river so me and “Barney” pulled harder and out came the hook. After I got “Barney” calmed down and had a few swigs of Yuengling my little 6 ft rod on my left started getting hit. I grabbed it and set the hook and got the 2 lb blue close to the boat. As I was reaching for him my big rod to my right bent over. I set the little one in the rod holder and started fighting the big one. About that time the wind picked up and blew my new straw hat into the current. Oh hell no! So I yanked the 2 lber in the canoe and grabbed the paddle and started paddling downstream towards my hat while still holding onto the big one with my right. Got my hat and fought what turned out to be about a 18 lb blue for about 6- 8 minutes. Got him on the stringer and clouds started rolling in. Fought the wind for a few. Decided to call it quites and trolled back to the landing. Thanked the Lord for a pretty cool day.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Nice work.
