Catfish.... which place, during the day?

I’m going to take my son out, possibly Monday. We just putt around in a jon boat with a trolling motor, so I’m obviously staying out of the tailrace.

I have considered the Goose Creek Reservior, and the freshwater side of Bushy. I’ve done both many times, and generally it’s quite safe for me.

I’d really like the chance to put something 15-30lb in the cooler, and Bushy is probably the most likely candidate, but I’ve not had a lot of luck there for cats. My son can fish for bluegill/misc for bait while I have the big rods out.

Bushy is as deep as all get out (40+, not far from the launch at all) but that’s not necessarily an advantage. But the potential for larger cats seems (to me) to be higher than GCR.

Are there any studs in GCR in any number worth fishing for?

I have caught some small cats there but never targeted them. Lots of Gar and big ones. The bream bite is hit or miss but if you can find them some nice ones there. Also some nice bass in there.

Are you talking about Goose Creek Res or freshwater side of Bushy?

Goose Creek, left of launch I believe it’s eagles bluff you go past on right then there is a little finger that goes in son and I caught 10 there one day all around 16 to 18 inches. I have also picked them up pass second power lines trolling along lily pads.

I’ve seen the cats in Goose Creek res and there aren’t any big ones in there.

We did a little drift fishing at Moultrie this past weekend in 20-25 foot of water and pulled up a 12 pounder using a filleted white perch. Saw a floater that looked bigger, possibly hit by a prop.

I don’t mind going to work but this sitting here for 8 hours waiting to go fish is bull.
