I have a sudden urge to do a little catfishin and was wondering if it would be worth the drive up to the rediversion this time of year? If not, does anyone have a few suggestions for a land locked fisherman looking for cats. Also, live in Goose creek, so I am willing to drive a little if need be. Thanks.
saltwater of bushypark is doing well on cutbait

you gotta go far for cutbait catfishin outta saltwater bushy? im thinking about trying just outside the inlet area by the ramp overnight in a few days and will be doing so by kayak if i decide to go.
ONN,there are catfish pretty much anywhere out there. Bushy’s saltwater side isn’t very strong saltwater. I’ve measured it before (not during rainy times either) when bringing home some critters for my son in a bucket, and the salinity was always “barely over fresh water”.
nice…should i look in deeper water for em or shallow like redfish?
You can get them right on the bank at times (especially at night), or in the creeks. Take a look at a chart or google earth, there’s a few creeks not too far from the landing. If you can get an American shad or some herring, they are the preferred bait right now.

went to a seafood market to try to get a shad and they didnt have any so mullet will have to work…i have a good idea where im gonna try though…hopefully drift a bit and mark a hole or 2 and try there. even better is incoming tide when i start and outgoing when im going back in…making paddling much easier gonna try a heavy rod with a big chunk of mullet and a normal rod with a shrimp and see what i can pull up.
If you are going to fish deep, then look for ledges or shelves. I like a shelf in 15 to 20 feet of water that drops sharply into deeper water. Fish on top but near the edge.

got on the water around 330am and bounced around a few ledges that went from 8-25 very quickly and drifted around and eventually marked 40+ feet and no takes for catfish, however i did manage a nice trout when drifting back casting into pockets.
Navy Nuke, next time you go for cats, cut a kitchen sponge in 2" pieces and soak it in menhaden oil, put it above your hook and a small split shot above it and fish with the mullet, buy a box of the cheap plastic gloves at grocery store if its too stinky for you. If you’re close to em they’ll come, espically if the tide is just changing and the current is slow

cant say ive ever seen menhaden oil for sale before…then again i never paid attention for it either. it sold at most any tackle shop?
Not sure about right now, but at low tide shad are a plenty at the end of the boat ramp at bushy. It might take a few throws, but you’ll get a couple of big ones usually. Great idea on the small sponge and menhaden oil, too!

Navy Nuke, most all places sell it, I always buy it by the gallon but it might be sold in smaller sizes.

I’ve never tried menhaden oil, but frozen shrimp soaked in cod liver oil is dynamite! That’s what I use if I can’t find any live bait when catfishing. I put the shrimp in an old (plastic) coffee can and dump a bottle of cod liver oil in it. You can throw it in the freezer when you get home, and it’s good to go the next time you need it. I always take some soap and a towel with me, because you do not want to fight a fish with oily hands.
I’m going to try the menhaden oil, though. It sounds promising.
