Is there any bank fishing for catfish within an hour of Charleston? We tried good hope and came up with a jumbo bowfin, also hooked into some rather large gar. The kids like the catfish but I’m all about those gar, they put up a great fight.

Hobo beach at the Tailrace Canal. It’s under the bridge. Park at the boat ramp and it’s a short walk down there.
Nice Pic! Westbank Landing on the Edisto by Jacksonboro during the week. It can get a bit Boaty during the weekend. Nice place to have a picnic.
Edit, I saw a dude bring in a 60# flat head a few years ago there. Check dnr laws but then you could use live bream for bait. Edisto river was (or still is?) the only river that you can. IMO best bait for flatheads or big blues.
You can catfish at the Rediversion canal below the railroad bridge or under the bridge on 52 just above St.Stephens
