Catfishing

Does anyone ever do any cat fishing from their yaks. Looking to try it out but not very sure what areas would be best. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I live in goose creek and am not apposed to some travel if need be.

Catfishing has been lousy the past couple of years. Last year was the worst year I’ve seen. I caught one catfish, 15lbs, and that’s it. Others have done better than I have though. I don’t kayak, but there are plenty of places you could.

Your best bet may be trying Bushy Park using cut mullet (saltwater side, believe it or not). Lots of catfish can be found around there.

Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.

Thanks. I actually fish bushy park the most from the kayak. I managed a few cats there last year. Guess I just need to wait out the crappy weather. Desperately need to get out fishing.

I need to get out and do more catfishing. Used to have success drifting bait in Lake Moultrie, and bumping bait on the bottom of the Diversion Canal, floating with the current.

tailrace canal in moncks corner there is a launch right under the bridge across from Gilligans restaurant. lots and lots of big cats. waters about 20 ft deep so need a long anchor line. i use cut mullet 3 oz egg sinker slip style 4 ft leader and a small float 6 inches from the hook to keep bait off the bottom. good luck TD

Thanks for the info. I have been wanting to try the tailrace, just don’t want to be in the way. I’ll be giving it a shot soon though.

I used to catch cats right there in the no-wake zone between Gilligans and the 52 Bridge…give it a shot!

I used to do it quite a bit on Lake Wylie (up near Rock Hill and Charlotte). Just use a C-rig much like fishing for Reds.
The best bait that I have foudn is cut shrimp for bait. THEY LOVE IT!

For the large cats, a lot of people use cut bluegill or crappie carcasses.
