I put the motor on my Malibu and the cavitation plate is about 4" above the bottom of the keel. What would be the best way to correct this? I’ve been researching shaft extension kits and they’re mostly 5 " but I guess I could put a 1" block of wood on the transom to raise the whole motor up a bit so it’d be even.
Another idea would be to cut a 4" tall piece out of the transom and drop the motor down a bit. I thinkt he major advantage to this would be that it would save on weight(not much…) and not to mention money!
Basically, I’m asking for suggestions here. What say the masses?
Also, out of the hole with only myself in it, the front end pops way up before getting on plane. Will correctiong the caviatation plate height help with this? What will I gain by correcting the height?

boat runs good at about 3/4 throttle, but when u open it up all the way it just revs and starts sucking air to the prop. may not need to go down 4 inches but some is definetly a good idea. i also adjusted the trim back down, had bumped it up one notch. Chris did it run better today than yesterday. i was thinkin the cavitation plate would be ok with the trip back down and it should also help with the bow rise out of the hole

From the picture, it looks like you really only need to come down about an inch. I know you said 4" but it’s doesn’t look it. When you are running is it 4" above the water? If it is, you have a bit of a problem (some work ahead of you). If it’s one inch, you could probably cut the transom down. My two cents.
