From my 15 years of shrimping excursions I have never done cb. For those who have done both what do you think is easier? I have heard some set up as early as 3 to 4 pm for cb for sun to set for a decent spot. At bb you can catch it off the rip if water is muddy but clear water is a day breaker. What is your opinion in regards to quicker time to catch a 1/2 cooler to full if they are there. Is cb at times a shut out as well? Was wondering what is better.
Wait for sunset
Typically low shifting to incoming tide at sunset is best
Get there early. I have seen all the spots taken by 5pm when sunset is after 7.
It gets tight, dont be surprised if someone double sets. You work the left side of your poles while 20-30 feet away they are working the right side of their poles.
Because of the bottom contour space is limited.
The very first time I tried CB, by the end of the night we watched jon boat wars as 2 or 3 guys had at it. They were chasing each other around, yelling, and prop washing each others poles. Comical for us, a little frustrating for them I imagine.
wow that is interesting and definitely food for thought. i guess pvc with conduit is a must because of ground.
And driving at night and in a crowded area is more challenging…you typically can’t get the spread on a pole set at CB that you
will in BB. And they need to be close enough to see them at night.
What about catch ratios? Easier to leave with something on a daily trip basis?
Crab bank goes from hard sand close to the harbor channel to soft mud near shore.
Conduit isnt required, but I imagine it makes life a little easier in the hard bottom areas.
