CC costs questions

So you guys were quite helpful in giving me an estimate of fuel/burn costs so I thought I’d come back with a few more questions.

Now I want to get a realistic perspective of what the annual costs of owning and storing a good size CC in Charleston. So for this exercise let’s assume a newer model 34’ CC w/ twin 4-strokes to be stored in the water preferably on a lift in a rented slip.

Here are the main annual costs I can think of and my estimates:

  1. Dockage - $7,000
  2. Cleaning/Wax/Bottom paint $3000
  3. Maintenance - $3000
  4. Fishing equipment - $3000 for replacement tackle & misc supplies
  5. Insurance & taxes - $4000

So would $20,000 be a fair budget to stay on the dock and be ready to go fishing? Then the other major costs would be the cost of owning the boat (depreciation/capital cost) and the cost of going fishing.

Thanks for any help. Again not trying to get too close here, just a good ballpark to set expectations.

2 and 4 estimates seem high to me.

If you’re on a lift, why would you bottom paint?

Correct, would not bottom paint if on lift. I added the lift and forgot to delete the paint.

It is way cheaper to find a friend with a boat…

Throw in an unexpected engine failure and your expenses just sky rocket…

If i had known 6 yrs ago what i know now,i would not own an offshore fishing boat.

Dockage is a bit high. You budgeted yourself for $17.15 a foot. There are marinas in Charleston that will keep you for $11-$12 per foot if you are interested. The highest cost is the “cost of going fishing” as you put it. With a boat that size, you are probably talking about $600-$700+ per trip for fuel (trolling) + bait + ice + budweiser.

If you load up with Busch beer you can save yourself about 5 bucks a case.
