I am not up to date on the best charters down there but I can tell you there are some charters with various “motherships” (houseboats usually down there) where you can stay over night making things very convenient. Most of them offer good food too.
If you pull a boat you may want to consider going to Gulfport and fishing the NW side of Cat Island. I have caught a lot of trout wading around Labor Day.
There are a number of Mother Ships that go to Chandeleur Islands for about three days. You stay on the boat and they launch smaller boats from the Mother Ship. I am pretty sure you have to get a group and charter the whole boat. I think it is about $5,000. Do a google search.
Southern Way charters is now renamed Southern Magnolia. Capn Brian actually bought the boat from the Southern Way owners and renamed the operation. I have fished with those guys many times. It is a blast. They take a max of 10’fisherman at $800 per head. Just. fantastic trip.
The Chandeleurs is an awesome place. Literally saw and fished a 5 acre school of redfish, the smallest we caught out of that school was 22 lbs. I fish with Bear Holeman in Nov/Dec. and then usually take a day or two with Mexican Gulf Fishing Company to fish the oil rigs. We usually rent a house boat at Venice Marina and make the run to the Chandeleurs. Great trip!
