Changed plans 5/6

All week we were looking at offshore. Seas changed that so it was time for the john boat. Drifted some small creeks up the Wando. Coolered 1 flounder and lost 2 at the boat. Wind and extreme tides were tough.

Thanks for the report. I am trying to make an effort to concentrate on flounder more this season rather than just catching them accidentally here and there. I have been drifting for them a couple times this year with little luck. Do you mind if I ask what type of rig you drift with? I typically drift one rod with mudminnow/jighead. On the second rod I drift a 3 way swivel with little weight as possible, mudminnow and hook with small float 4-5 inches from hook to keep off bottom. Thanks for the help.

Mellie, I just drift a plain 1/4 oz gig with a big fat MM, I also use a small carolina rig with a fluke hook. I like to hit the small creeks and small dump out creek mouth. Try to slow down and don’t be so fast to set the hook. They need time to get the big fatty down. Good luck.

Thanks Opps

Inside I use a 3/8 oz egg in front of a 2 way swivel and 18" of 20 lb floro and a 2/0 khale hook, and sometimes I will put 24-30’ and tie a loop in the middle with another 2/0 khale. Make sure the loop is a tad shorter than the other part of the line. Remember to drift as slow as possible. I have a trolling plat on my little 25 and I put the nose of the boat in the current and put the motor in gear in idle and let just drift away. I catch a lot of them up around Little Rive, Murrels Inlet and G-Town like that. Good luck.
