Headed out this morning in hopes to lay the wood down on some mahi. When fishing for mahi gets slow we bring out the secret ingredient. Live bait. Went and got some hero cigar minnows at the bouy. After putting 30-35 in the live well it was time to head out towards the 696 hole. Found an awesome weed line and it was game on from there. Put three rods out with terrified heros and in no time had our first hit. Little dolphin… But he hit the ice quick. Put lines back out and continued down the weed line where we picked a few more schoolies up. While fighting those the entire school of around 400 was to follow… Pitched cut ballyhoo and live bait to them and took 10 from the school. It was to easy so we put the rods up and I free gaffed one. I was 1 for 40 but hey I still stook him. Went around 30 minutes without any bites until we looked in the distance and saw a nice fish pushing a wake. The wake went away and the rod went down. Big mahi. He put on a show in which the big bull made 8 or 9 huge leaps. After about 30 minutes on a little king rod the beast was in the box. Decided that was a good note to leave on, so we packed up and headed back to the house! Great day on the water and good to know the mahi are still somewhat thick. Finished with 21 phins but could have caught all we wanted.
