For years around the same time I could go on my dock and expect to catch trout.Last year was pretty good this year I have been skunked 7 times.Friends fishing have also been unlucky.Plenty of bait still in the creek and lots of shrimp off my dock.Things should pick up when the shrimp move out.
What time of the year do the shrimp move out? Just wondering…
Wonder what the water temp was this time last year?
wore out the trout yesterday they are coming

Its the same for me! Some sections of the river have tons of bait and others, nada! Local Boy, Grubs or bait?
Temp off my dock was 64 yesterday.I have caught shrimp when the water temp was 58.

Grubs, 4" sickled tail smoke with metal flakes, alot of light hits so you have to be quick, most were caught trolling

To Patientmaker:
Water temp was just about thee same this time last year. Just checked the NOAA tide station info for the Customhouse. If you remember, the water temp dropped almost 20 degrees through December from 65 degrees to about 47 degrees on Dec. 31.
Same here Stono,
Fished spots up and down that river that I have never been skunked this time of year.
All together, 8 hours of trolling and two fish. Hard on my wallet, beer is expensive.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for the day.
Teach a man to fish and he’ll keep bait in the refrigerator
Funny, early!
I was checking my tidelog from last year and saw the same thing as far as temps. Spiraled in December.
I know I’ve been gloom and doom about trout, but science and math back it up. I just truly feel there aren’t as many as last year, and they were hurting last year already. I’m not Mr. Angler, but last year I was a total dope limiting out on trout up until December. This year, notta good.
You might run into a pod here and there, but I feel there are alot less to school up than years past. I hope I’m wrong.

We are seeing the same thing in the Broad River area, not many trout. Last year we were catching 50 a trip, this year I don’t think we’ve caught 50 all year, and almost all of them are shorts. I’m sure the last 2 winters have hurt them bad, no matter who says what. I’ve usually got nothing against keeping a mess of fish, but I’ve put my boat on a release only program for trout until I start seeing a big improvement. I don’t need a scientist or a DNR report to tell me something is wrong.
