My son has been getting sick and the wife doesn’t want him on a boat so it looks like I’ll have to just try my hand from the shore.
ETA: Can I register and get the shirt, etc at any location or do I need to go to the West Ashley store on St. Andrews? It looks like the Mt. Pleasant location is a little closer to our hotel.
Wow! What an incredibly gorgeous day it turned out to be! I’m so kicking myself for leaving the kayak at home! Many thanks to the guys at Charleston Angler and Lowcountry Fly Shop for pointing me to some fishing spots.
Unfortunately my son and I didn’t end up with much. We did see one small red caught at Pitts Rd. but I hate to say this is all we can contribute to the contest. When we stopped at Charleston Angler (West Ashley) my son thought this was a great way to ensure we didn’t go home w/o a red.
Enjoyed checking out your city. It’s got some gorgeous places to fish and I wish I had more time. I think we’re going to have to make a longer trip in the future.
Team fishbusters, that fish is clearly over slot. It really hacks me off when people catch these gorgeous creatures and then keep them out of the water to take a pic. That one has been out of the water so long he even looks fake. No way you could resuscitate him.
Seriously, though, 'was a beautiful day. Wish I’d been able to get out also.
Man you guys are rough. Can’t stand a little competition eh? I promise he rehydrated well once I got him back in the water. And I tried to remove the tag but figured I’d get busted. :-p
I forgot to mention that I caught him with an artificial lure.
Local, there’s still plenty of time. It’s a weekly event until Dec 4. I just wish I’d had more time in your fair city to really compete. I have to say it was heartbreaking to visit the Aquarium this afternoon and see all the fine bull reds in the main tank. It was tempting to run back and grab the gear from the car.
ETA: I just wanted to say thanks again to Charleston Angler for sponsoring a tournament like this. Since we only had the weekend in town I’d planned on fishing Sat morning and then taking my son to the Yorktown. To my surprise he opted to fish all day instead. For a 6-y-o to be that excited even though we weren’t catching anything was remarkable. I didn’t really plan on catching anything but appreciate the opportunity and excuse to take him out and feed his desire to fish a little more.
