Charleston Angler

I stopped by the Summerville location this morning and they said they were closing the doors to that location in March. They are keeping the other location open.

Well that would seem to have something to do with the Bass Pro Shops coming to that area. The store maybe was breaking even or losing money and with the Brass Pro announcement they saw it best to close it. Just seems coincidental is all.

They said when Bass Pro opens it will cripple most of the local tackle and gun shop businesses.

Wait. Did they sell tackle there? I thought they just sold clothes

Touche’

I was surprised that store was ever opened, it’s not really near any body of water. The one’s on the coast will be fine, I think. I for one won’t be driving to Ladson buy stuff I can get between my house and the boat ramp.

I’m not exactly a business man, and I really do like the store, but it really was not a good location at all. It’s so far out of the way of anything except people specifically going from Summerville to Moncks Corner. I think the store was doomed before it ever opened, just because of that.

Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.

Im with optiker ! Anytime ive gone in there for as something as simple as some hooks they didn’t have it ! Insane they think not to stock tackle but all kinds of clothes .

It doesn’t take many times for that to happen for fishermen to not go to a local shop. I stopped going there long ago. Btw they have heard that from me directly many times so I’m not just venting on a forum

Glad I’m not the only one that felt that way… the staff was helpful, but the tackle selection was horrible. I drive by there every day, so before trips it was my first stop to pick up supplies - but I always ended up at Walmart for most of my stuff.

I tried to shop there many times, told them what hooks to order, but they never would. I tried to get 65# braid spooled on reels last week…no 65# or 80# Oh well, you can’t sell from empty shelves

I think their WA store is great. To me it’s no wonder the Summerville store failed and it’s not bass pro

Anyone remember the Anglers in summerville? They must have not did too well either. I always thought CA’s Mt Pleasant prices had no business up that-a-way (we have mud on our boots up here).

It’s a shame when a local store fails. But don’t be quick to point fingers at a big box store when they don’t even have their doors open. If a store isn’t selling what customers want it only takes time until the doors will close.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

The West Ashley Angler is one of my favorite stores. You can nearly always fimd what you need. I have made numerous trips to Bass Pro Myrtle Beach and Concord. I hardly ever find what I need. If I receive a gift card, I will spend it. Otherwise, I no longer frequent Bass Pro. Bass Pro does have decent popcorn.

The small tackle shops will be just fine. Everyone said Lowes and Home Depot would put all the local hardware stores out of business and they are doing just fine. There are many people like myself that always prefers the local businesses versus the large box stores. When I go to Haddrells or my local hardware store I get excellent customer service. Not knocking BassPro, but they are not set up for the kind of one-on-one customer service that the small local businesses offer.

Besides Haddrell's Point, what small local fishing store has been open for over 20+ years.

Ok… I’ll make it easier, 15+ years.

Just teasing. Let’s say, 10 years.
