Will be headed to Charleston this weekend. Looking for some advice on where there are public access areas to do some fly fishing for Reds. Will be wading, as we have no boat. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I don’t know of any places you can wade unless there is a flood tide…and there is not one this weekend unless the tide is trending higher than predicted.
Either way, the tailing redfish have not really showed up yet because the water temperate is still too cool…around 58 degrees.
Wish I had better news to share but I don’t think it will be worth trying it this weekend.
Hopefully somebody else will chime in with better advice though.
You could always hire a guide that will put you on some low tide fish though.
Yeah, the problem, 56, is that you can’t walk on our mud flats b/c you will sink up to your crotch and cut yourself on buried oysters, etc. Its exhausting and no fun. If you can find a sandy area, you can wade no problem. The surf, maybe breach inlet, or the other end of Sullivan’s island might work, although the bait really hasn’t shown up in force yet, so the fishing will probably be a little spotty. Fishing is better than not fishing though!

I have gotten several reports of tails in the grass, lots of them and happy happy redfish… The tides this weekend are still pretty low but Optiker is right, breach inlet may produce aroudn the rocks as long as water is moving and hiring a guide will almost guarantee gettin ya on fish and having a better fishing time

You could also look and see if you could rent a kayak or canoe?
Noticed the fiddlers are starting to move around again… The folly river had almost 1-2 foot swells in it yesterday, so the weather might not be ideal. The month of march has not cooperated with my days off
I went once, and so did a friend to a different flat last cycle, and both of us saw some fiddlers but only had cold feet to show for it.
Glad to hear that Nikon’s buddies had better luck. Should be good to go next cycle.
Saw a few today in that wind, real skinny water in the grass and they were laid up… was out at the wrong time for tails but the Saltwater Crickets (Fiddlers) were all over… Once this wind dies down a little and we get a GOOD set of flood tides it’ll be on like donkey kong…

Thanks for all the replys and info! Guess you can tell we are not very well educated on inshore fishing. We live less than an hour away from Brevard, so most of our fishing is done in and around the Davidson. May definitely try the Breech inlet.May also hit the pier at Folly Beach. Thanks again!
