Bringing the wife down for a weekend. Anyone have any recommended areas to go see by boat, we’ll have a 18’ bay boat and all day Saturday to be on it. How about a good dockable lunch spot?
We’ll be staying on James Island and are familiar with Charleston by land, but not so much by creek/river. Got GPS, etc to make it around w/o too much trouble.
Any help would be great! Thanks!
Reply to my own topic, since I had a good time.
Put in at Wappoo Cut at the bridge crossing over to James Island. We got the last parking spot at 930am, cruised left to the battery, around up in to Shem Creek, back down around the harbor a bit, then back into Wappoo Cut to the Crab House (other side of the bridge at the put in, not too bad, the hushpuppies were amazing). Got the last dock spot there too, just before everyone was rafting to each other, some in daisy chain. After lunch went to the left out of the Crab House, which is Wappoo cut, nice houses through there, on out into the Stono, a name I’ve read much about on these pages, never been fortunate enough to fish it though.
Got back to the landing and there were cars parked on every spot available, even some trailers/trucks backed up the bank to the highway. Get there early if you want easy parking.
No fishing this time, but was a good mix of site seeing and realization of places that I’d read about, such as the Stono, Wappoo, Crab Banks, etc.
