Charleston Flying Fish

I’m hoping to show my grandchildren some flying fish in action. But I’m reluctant to go far over the horizon with them. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the cute critters, and that was in the stream. Anybody seen them not too far off going out from Charleston? Times of year? Times of day?

Different day to day. You will probably have to get out of site of land to accomplish your goal.

Recently they have been stacked up in 120-150ft. Thats a far ride though(30 miles at least). Pods of running dolphin are closer which are always a crowd pleaser.

In the early fall I’ve seen them in 60-80 ft.

I’ve seen them in the shipping channel numerous times but it’s hit or miss

On a good day to go offshore there will be plenty of boats to follow out or buddy boat with.

Take them to the Keys, I’ve seen them in 50’ of water a mile or so out.
