Charleston Harbor Sharks

This is my first post to the forum and I’ve really enjoyed reading everyone’s posts.

Good 3 days of fishing in Charleston Harbor with my wife and two kids. Enjoyed catching pinfish for bait just upstream from Remley’s Landing where we put in every day.

Boated 2 sharks (I believe both were black-nose sharks?), my 10-y/o son had another 5-footer next to the boat near Dynamite Hole. It surfaced, but before we could get a pic, it broke the 30 lb. braid. I had a monster hooked next to the north jetty that ran me to 1/4 spool then broke my 60 lb. braid. My wife caught the bigger of the two pictured. Fun trip shark fishing…can’t wait to do it again.

Those are sharpnose Sharks. Still looks like a good day

The white spots are a dead giveaway for sharpies in my experience. I’ve never seen those on another species of sharks but then again, those are mostly all we catch when it comes to sharks.

Thanks Fishguy and btshipp…I appreciate the ID as I’m still learning my saltwater fishes!

Well done dad!

Great job and thanks for the pics.

Is that your wife or did you have Alanis Morissette on board?

Yep. Sharks around the harbor are good fun this time of year. It’s great with kids. We had a 5 and 8 year old out this week. Caught This hammerhead and a few Sharpnose last Tuesday.

Karma is 360 degrees

Some got to win, some got to lose…

That looks like some fun fishing. I really enjoy fishing for sharks.

If you can find some blue crabs they make excellent bait for bonnethead sharks which are abundant in and around Charleston.

As for the break-offs, a four foot spinner or blacktip will cut through 80 pound braid like butter with their tails when they go to spinning in the air or thrashing underwater. If you want to land these 4’-7’ fish you may want to consider a wind-on leader in the 100-200 pound range.
