Charleston Jetties 3/9-10

Made my first trip of the year to Charleston this weekend. Weather was not bad Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, but wind got up after noon and it was a tough ride back to Remleys Point Saturday afternoon.
Friday afternoon we caught five red fish (3 slot, keepers and released one 14", one 27"), five convicts ( 2 keeper with largest 17" and released 3 under 14"), and two toadfish. Saturday morning we caught three keeper black drum, three convicts (2 keepers and released a shorty), one big toadfish, and lost three really nice convicts.
I recently purchased the “fish wrap system” and gave it a try on this trip. I was overall happy with the way it worked. It is a little trouble putting the bait into the pouch but bait lasts a good while. I started out with fiddlers in the wrap and I caught a toadfish, a redfish, and a convict on one fiddler crab before I had to reload the pouch. Saturday I used a double dropper rig with a jig head with a fiddler on the bottom and a wrap filled with oyster on the upper hook. I hooked an 18" black drum on the hook with the oyster filled wrap and the fiddler was gone on the bottom hook.
Just curious. What kind of slam do I get by catching the toadfish, redfish, and convict on one fiddler crab?
Can’t wait till mid-April when I come back down.

That fish wrap system looks like a mess just for some bait. I’ll stick to my z-man plastics that last forever.

Have you ever caught a sheep head on a zman?

I too bought the wrap system. I fill them with clams. I went out to capers reef yesterday and caught probably 50 BSBs on one bait never having to even touch it. Unhook throw back in and boom fish on. I am looking forward to using it out in deeper water. No sheeps yet but I am gonna keep trying.

Hi new to the area and never heard of a wrap system. Somebody want to help me out on this one. Sounds interesting.

Jetties must be nice :frowning:

It is a small mesh bag that you can put bait into. It keeps the fish from stealing your bait so easily. It is made and distributed by the Mossy Head Bait company. Here is the link.

There are several videos on you tube that you can watch.

Thanks Bob, looks like a good concept, what are the injectors for?

Your can put oysters, clams, chopped shrimp, etc and inject that into the wrap.

Thanks Bob, I am going to try it especially with clams. I always tied them on with elastic thread, but this system sounds a lot easier.

Bob

What size wraps do you guys use?

I’m using Type 1 which is 3/4" x 1"… It only takes about 1/4 of average size oyster.

Good to see everyone is trying the wrap system out. Haven’t had a chance to get back down to Charleston and use mine…

I ordered mine yesterday and they sent an email asking how I found out about them. I told them about Charleston fishing forum. They shipped today. Looking forward to getting them.

I have mine and am itching to try them out as well.
