Charleston near shore

anyone having any luck there besides BSB?

I fished there today. Caught the usual suspects, bsb, Atlantic sharpnose, croaker and saw a massive barracuda under the boat. Used fiddlers for sheeps but in traditional near shore reef fashion all were eaten first by short bsb.

I went out yesterday as well (5/31). Caught a keeper BSB and two 12in on a 2oz bucktail and the rest on frozen squid. Caught a pretty decent croaker and two oyster fish. A few weeks ago we caught a few sharpnose.

so basically stay away from nearshore reef Thanks.

Yeah, haven’t fished the NSR for ages and decided to try it on a nice day a couple weeks back. Caught BSB as fast as you could get a line in. After 2 hours and no keepers we called it. Should have stayed in the harbor or creeks targeting other candidates for the frying pan. If we go out there again I think we’ll target live bottoms and see what that does…

What size boats are you guys using to get to the nearshore reefs

Gonefishing, I have a 21ft CC. Sunday I saw what looked to be a 21-23ft bay boat and a 17ft bay boat. I know I bounced pretty hard a few times going out so I can’t imagine how the ride was in the 17ft.

Pick your days and you’ll be fine. I run my J14 out there often but I also know when to turn around.

Like bmarvil said, pick your days and know when to turn around. You can do it in a 17 footer no problem. I used to run out there all the time in a 17 foot key west. That reef is excellent for taking the family fishing. It keeps everyone entertained with the non stop flurry of sea bass.

Twitch was that you out there Sunday in the center console off my port side? There were 2 other boats out there when I was there. Mine was the one with the hardtop and out riggers. We caught a ton of tiny sea bass but said screw it after a while and went to the rocks.

18’ SeaPro. - as has been said: pick your days and watch the skies…

Killin, yup that was me. We caught a ton of small ones as well. But it was the first time the wife and buddy had ever caught saltwater fish so I didn’t mind throwing them back. They both thought they were hooked up with Moby Dick, and had to break it to them that the monster they were caught on was the bottom.

ha twitch !!
