Charleston Photo ID

A British friend sent me this article. It’s very complimentary to CHS (as in downtown, SOB only) and that’s nice.

However, the photo…I can’t place it. It’s definitely not on the peninsula. Does anyone recognize it? Our marinas are always on rivers and open areas, this one seems to be on a lake or some closed body of water.

Most likely it is just a stock photo of some random place. It sorta fits the character of modern Charleston, although it’s really out of step with all the tradition and history that the article talks about.

I believe that photo is of Ripley Marina. The yellow and red structure on the left would be the La Quinta Inn. Next to that are the boat dry stacks and you can see the lights for the football stadium at Porter Gaud in the background. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

All you need to know about the article is this: “I have been with my women?s Bible study group for almost 20 years; after our meeting we typically go for a drink in one of the many bars or restaurants.”

That my friends says she ain’t a Baptist.

I speak as a hardcore Southern Baptist (a deacon, nonetheless), with a Master of Divinity from a Southern Baptist seminary. But, you clearly don’t know many Presbyterians or Episcopalians in this area :sunglasses:. Some of the most faithful people I know will have the occasional brew. None of them get drunk though.

Ripley it is. Good call F five.

Ripley is it. That is where I used to dock my boat.

Going to Church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Thanks all.

I’ve never been to Ripley, so didn’t recognize it.

For a story all about the author’s apparently wonderful downtown life it’s odd that they didn’t choose another photo. Anyway, at least it’s “in the area”.

I can say this since I am Baptist:

Lots of Baptists drink…just not in front of each other.

Why don’t Baptists make love standing up? Because they are afraid someone might think they are dancing.

I am not a Baptist and neither is my wife but we were married by a long-time family friend that is a retired Navy commander and current Baptist minister. He loves a Gin & Tonic or two. One of my best friends is a Baptist deacon, he loves a cold beer and even brews his own.

Obviously there are varying degrees of Baptist.

The la quinta is pet friendly, has a nice breakfast and has soundproof walls if you’re interested in that kind of thing. That is a pretty view in that picture though.
