Anybody ever caught a tarpon on the fly in Charleston?
not that has been confirmed or documented… Ive heard in beaufort they have… but its just blind casting in a chum slick when you see them rolling… Not exactly a booming fishery…

I blew an opportunity about 5 years ago when I saw them rolling and free jumping through pogies in early October.
Only had a 6 wt on the boat… musta been 30 of em all within casting distance of the boat…quite a sight!
I have hooked em but not landed one yet. Missed two great days around N edisto where they were very sightfishable. Finned out and sliding on top through cuts in sandbars. Looked like big black logs. Didn’t have the 12 with me, of course. In port royal during the real weak tides in august/sept a couple years ago they were all on the surface chasing glass minnows and I hooked two, chasing them with the trolling motor. Throwin gummi minnows. Was fun, but got fed up and started chunkin hadens. Gonna have the 12 on board at all times this year and hope I get some more sight fishing targets. Blind casting/drift-back aint fly fishin IMO.
its a done deal this year, ill post pics when i land him haha
