I hope you’re all doing well. My boss and I are coming down from Charlotte in a couple of weeks on business, but we’re hoping to get in a quick inshore charter. I was hoping to get y’all’s opinions on 1) whether or not it’s worth it for us to pay for a charter this time of the year and 2) who y’all would recommend if we decide to proceed. I don’t want to step on any toes or offend any captains, so please pm if you don’t want to post on the forum. As always, thanks in advice for your help and advice.
IMO, this time of year is especially a good time of the year to do an inshore charter. Especially if you are into reds in shallow water. Bigger numbers of fish in a school typically means less areas to find them, but when you do it can be off the charts good. I will PM you with some charter guides I deal with on an almost daily basis that are all over the fish this time of year…all of which will be great guys with great personalities. Hope it helps and best of luck!
J.R. Waits fishes as much if not more than any other guide out there this time of year. If I was booking a charter I would hire him, he can put you on fish using flyrod, artificials or live bait. 843-509-7337 www.fishcall.com

Thanks for the recommendations you’ve provided. My bossman and I will definitely be making a trip based on y’all’s advice. Peapod, I’ve gotten three pm’s so far. I plan to call each referral as a show of my appreciation, and I’ll make a decision after that.
ive booked with reel fish finder with capt james lavanway and shallow thoughts with captain jeremy espiritu…both of which did a good job for my groups.
I am NOT kidding. “John” did not take me out. He had another guide take us. However, “John” did take my $600. I wanted to catch reds, was guaranteed to catch reds, but only caught a couple trout. Our guide was more concerned with fishing more for himself than letting us fish. He was the first to cast sitting up forward, leaving me and a buddy on the aft end casting into his already fished waters. I know big reds thrive out by the jetties. I let John know I wanted to catch the reds, as my buddy had never caught one. I knew immediatley we werent going out to the jettied when the guide rolled up on a flats boat, but still felt optomistic. it all went downhill from there when our guide told us he normally fishes Kiawaha, and rarely the Charleston harbor area. well the day was a bust as we did not catch our targeted fish.
half-hitched, your imbred thoughts mean nothing to me. Black Bart was asking for advice about fishing charters, so i gave him my own personal experience.
quote:stay away from affinity charters! I had a terrible experience with them about this time of year last year.

Did it ever occur to you that the fishing the jetties for big redfish may not work in the wintertime?
Affinity runs a great operation, I have fished with his guides before.
Won’t do you any good attempting to bash Affinity Charters, the folks here know that he runs a first class operation, definitly ONE of the finest charter operations around. His captains that I have had the pleasure of fishing with are top notch and will go above and beyond to ensure the customers allways have a great trip.
