First off, weather man was dead wrong! Called at 9:00 pm last night, “variable winds 5knots, seas 2 feet”. Came out of the channel and confronted with honest 4 to 5. Thought it would lay down further out, so I pushed to the 60. Original trip was to the Y, but the seas changed plans. 3-4 at 5-6 seconds at the 60. Finally started to flatten out so I pushed out. 65 foot lost a small king at boat side. 70 ft, outrigger trips with a cut off, then nothing out to 90 ft. Saw maybe 5 flyers the entire trip. Started trolling in and hit a good bottom area in 70ish water. Downrigger goes off, 15 lb king. Long story short we stayed there for 2 hrs and left them biting. Lost one Monster that hit the outrigger and screamed it, hook pulled after about 5 min. Hit the 60 again on the way in to find the 2 footers they called for (BRIEFLY) and three rods go down, nasty barracudas. fed cudas for about 45 min. and seas picked up again to 3-4 and closely packed. Picked up and headed in around 5ish as it got worse and worse, finished the ride in to the rocks in the washing machine at honest 4-5’s. Still a good day on the water, had around 25 runs, most in a 2-3 hour time frame
Total
-3 kings in the boat (2 lost at boat side)
-too many barracudas to count
-an ass kicking due for the weather man
-a mouth full of loose teeth
Coates I was actually surprised how the boat did, it was the first time it has been in anything that rough. Not saying it was “comfy” but she did pretty well. I was proud of her. That doesn’t mean I wanna do it all the time, but I did build a little confidence. A few bumps and bruises - sure, a buddy that didn’t feel so hot most of the trip - yep, and wet to the bone when we got back to the hill - of course. See? Not so bad!!! We did manage 24-27 till we got into the washing machine near the rocks; got right up on top of it. 3 fisherman safe at the hill though, that’s what counts.
