CT and I met up on the North Mills River Friday afternoon. Our original plans didn’t work out but we had a good time. His plans were to be on the water at first light and mine were to meet him around noon. Well, he didn’t make it to the water until noon ansd I didn’t get there until 2pm. Even with the water REALLY LOW and REALLY CLEAR, we did manage a couple of fish. Here is CT and a sequence of his brookie and then my rainbow. (Check out the really clear water)
We then drove down to the Green where we each managed a couple of more fish. All in all a good time. CT, I’m looking forward to the next time you makes it up here. Maybe we will have more time and more water next time so we can try a few other spots I’ve fished before.
I can’t wait till I unlimber my new long rod on the grass flats of Charleston in the hunt for my first “tailing red on the fly” this coming weekend. Postings will follow on Tuesday.

I always like to see a nice trout report on here. Glad you got to fish the DH. From your pics it sure looks like they need some rain up there. Did you by chance get a water temp.? Just curious since you were wearing waders.
Way to go guys! Even though we’re having a bad drought this year, the trout can be caught. Kind of a win lose time because of the low water levels. You can find them easy, but you have to be careful not to spook them. I live up here in Hendersonville, N.C. and enjoy fly fishing for our mt. trout. But I’d still rather target saltwater fish.

Always on the go Sharky, my last trip two weeks ago was north of Wilmington. Man did we catch the speckled trout! Hope to be in Charleston this weekend. I’ll give you a shout later in the week.

I didnt see the post my fault. Yes it was a grand time and thanks for all the compliments and comments. Thanks Mike yep reel worked like a charm I also used it yesterday on some trout which was fun!
The water level was extremely low as far as I could tell. Never been around there so I dont know what to compare it to but the water on the north mills had very little flow if any which made it difficult if you ask me.
I plan on returning next week for some hiking and hopefully I can slip some more time on the stream. Its definately fun but alot of work with the water levels and such but that makes a fish all that much more worth it:smiley:
As far as the waders well honestly it was probably warm enough to leave them off but I didnt check it first so I just slipped them on. The water on the green plus the depth would have left a man pretty cold though:slightly_smiling_face:
Good luck. The fish have to be in shock up there. We really need some rain!!! If conditions improve, I may head up next month. They should stock again if the water conditions better.
I still wouldn’t fish the Davidson yet. Those fish have been pounded, even with the low water. The people just keep coming and acting like it doesn’t matter! There is plenty of other water up here to fish. I think that it’s probably best to leave the wild fish alone.
That said, the delayed harvest water is even tough because of the low water. They didn’t stock as many fish but because the water is so low it seems like they stocked twice as many. The fish are definitely skiddish now so a certain amount of stalking is in order.
