Im trying to plan a short 2 day pack in fishing trip on the river up there for hopefully some trout. Does anyone know of any areas where its legal to camp and there are decent trails in near decent fishing holes. Im looking to do this March 14, 15, and 16.
Any help would be appreciated and if anyone wants to join us let me know
There are primitive camp sites all up and down the SC side of the river. There is also a good walking trail on the SC side that I’ve walked from the 28 bridge almost to the fish hatchery. It runs right along the river in most spots so it’s a matter of looking for the right spot, although you can catch fish in almost any spot.

Burrells Ford has a good camp site and decent fishing or you can hike up form the TU entrance at the 28 bridge. Plenty of camp sites along the riv and there is pretty good fishing all along that stretch.
It’s according to what kind of fish you are looking for. The only reason I would even go around the Burrell’s Ford area is to hike way up and try for native trout. That time of year I would go in at 28 and walk up about a mile. There are plenty of camp sites along SC side. Should be mid day hatches with lots of fish. Good luck.
Used to fish the chattooga a good bit when I was at Clemson.

I second that. Once you pass the 28 bridge ignore the area where everyone else is parked on the right just past the bridge and drive up maybe another quarter mile or so and on the left is a little area where you can pull off and there is an old gated forestry road on the right. Walk that all the way down to the river (maybe a mile hike) you will pass some forestry test fields maybe 2 or 3 and you can camp anywhere there along the river and that whole stretch of river about a 1/2 mile upstream and downstream is loaded with browns and rainbows. Plenty of pools, eddies and shoals, by far the best area to fish.

The trout are eating dries all day long. The hatches start mid-morning and continue throughout the day. Last weekend was a blast.
