Chatterbaits and Spinnerbaits

Are these good artificials for redfish? I have Zman, strike king, and cajun thunder.

Not sure about the chatterbait but I’m sure with the right color it could produce. If you have one with a golden blade so much the better.

There have been a lot of reds caught on spinnerbaits. Not sure about this time of year, but it can work. Keep in mind that golden spoons are some of the most effective redfish lures.

Thank you for that. I’m going to try it out tomorrow and I’ll let you know how it goes.

Raddaddy may weigh in. He knows stuff

Don’t forget crankbaits…

Had an awesome day with them… we used spinner baits too but the current was too much and they wouldn’t swim right… White and Chartreuse are usually really good colors tho…

On the flats, Chatterbaits and spinnerbaits work well when the fish are in a “chasing” mood which doesn’t happen on the majority of days this time of year when the water dips below 55 degrees. Bait and scented plastics will be far more effective for reds from now until sometime in April than these types of lures. Jerkbaits and crankbaits that suspend in front of their noses can be highly effective when the water is cold, and a gold or black spoon is always necessary to have tied on for long casts and performance in and around grass. If reds are found a little deeper in the smaller creeks or ICW around docks, trees, or rocks, the Chatterbait year-round is very effective with a scented plastic trailer using a reel and stop technique, keeping the lure very close to the bottom.

Told ya

Thank you Raddaddy, that helps out a lot. I tried it out today, but with the wind and cloudiness, nothing was biting it

Yep the soft plastics

They do quite well this time of year. Houdini and Redbone are 2 popular colors.

May not always help, but I think it never hurts to throw a little Pro Cure mullet scent on those Z-mans. Reds, unlike trout, are scent and sight driven. A little stank never hurts IMO.

How effective do y’all think a freshwater bass roostertail would be for reds/possibly trout?

I’m so salt life I get land sick.
