Once again, we are going to Cherry Grove for our annual beach trip. We will be there towards the end of July. This year, for the first time, I am thinking about taking my boat. I am looking for suggestions about what/where/how to fish or am I wasting my time? I am not really interested in driving down to Murrell’s Inlet, so Little River or Hog Inlet seem to be my best bets. I’ve checked the tides and it will be high in the mornings at the beginning of the week to midday towards the end of the week. I have a 20’ bay boat so, with the right weather conditions, I could go offshore but not too far. Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

Use the boat ramp on 53rd ave north in Cherry Grove and troll the main creek for flounder. Use a Carolina rig with mud minnows or finger mullet. You can also use a cork around the feeder creeks for trout when the tide is moving.
You may also want to try the jetties, a bit of a ride but usually productive.
Good luck!

Thanks Marsh. With the lack of responses, I was leaning towards the “wasting my time” part. I am still thinking that way a little. Where is there public access on the Little River up that way?

That is where that big bull shark ate the girl’s red fish as she was reeling it in last year or the year before.

Some folks do real well catching flounder in Hog Inlet.

Try posting this in the TO The North forum. I’m sure you’ll get some responses there. As far as Cherry Grove…just be prepared to play bumper boats with the North Carolina flounder fleet.

The closest place to access the ICW is under the large bridge going towards little river on hwy 17. I believe its the Chris Anderson Memorial Landing. Head out of Cherry Grove on Sea Mtn. Hwy towards the old draw bridge, turn to the right just before the draw bridge and the landing will be on the right underneath the large bridge. There are several creeks and good spots on the way to the jetties also. The inlet in Chery Grove will be full of flounder and the jetties will have a mix of just about anything. I grew up in Cherry Grove and had caught a pile of fish all over that area.

Caught tons of blues and Spanish trolling the jetties in my BiL’s boat
fish the rocks for reds, sheeps and can catch trout under a cork with the tide moving.
good flounder fishing both directions from the 53rd st landing. Be prepared to lose some rigs. If you’re not retying, you’re not trying
