Hi, I am sea tonics wife and wanted to know if anyone ever puts their boat in there at cherry point and does anyone have any advice on that area?
There is a sandbar right in from of it and other shoaling both up towards the marina and down to the north edisto. But there are probably at least 5 daymarkers in that stretch that make it easy. The only area that is poorly marked, in my opinion, is the last point on the right before entering the river. It is shallow all the way from the shore to to the beacon -which can look like several hundred yards of good water at higher tides. Give it a good berth if you’re heading up the edisto. After launching, if headed towards edisto, stay 100-200 off the wadmalaw shore until you get near the shrimp docks to avoid the sandbar. The NOAA chart shows what I mean but google earth makes it even clearer. You can click on different dates -sometimes the satellite goes over at high, sometimes at low. I know bars shift but this one seems fairly consistent. The one from 2010 for the area seems to have been at lowest tide -not to be fully relied upon but gives the picture. Otherwise, just don’t wake the fancy pants Rockville set and you’re fine.

Thanks so much!
Pretty good stuff right there. If you are heading out of the sound, be careful around Deveaux Banks, there is a sandbar between the island and Seabrook, and really shallow water behind Deveaux.
I just put in their yesterday at dead low and its not bad, but they are right on the left side of those markers it gets at least down to 2ft but if you guys have a shallow drafting boat you shouldn’t have a problem. Their is actually two sandbars by Devaux bank one on each end. Also if you are out when the tide is coming up, it rolls in fast, we lost 25 yards of beach in about 10 minutes, and if its windy it gets real choppy in the inlet, moderate wind yesterday and i was getting pounded by 4-5 ft swells I have a 17ft Keywest sportsman, not a deep v but pretty good v-bottom and i was taking water over my bow when i slowed just be weary of the wind/tide but once you get in the bay where cherry is its no problem. High tide easy pezy

Thanks again for the info about Cherry pt landing. We went on Saturday and had no problems at all getting around the area. Unfortunately, we only landed one black tip shark. Not being familiar with the area, we tried a lot of different spots, mostly mouths of creeks, rivers just off of the N.Edisto. Also tried the marsh/shell banks near the sunken shrimp boats but didn’t have any luck there either. Seems like a lot of deep drop offs that might be good for sharks. but we were looking for reds/trout/flounder. This was all on the falling tide. If we go again, we’ll try rising tide and see what happens.

We trolled in front of Devaux during the end of the incoming tide, before the winds picked up. Thought we might hook into a blue or maybe a spanish mackerel. No luck. The rest of the day, we were jumping around from spot to spot in the N. Edisto and some side rivers/creeks.

That’s a pro-tip right there. It can be deceptive, especially after you’ve made it through many times at high tide. Guess how I know!
