How far out of Charleston Harbor do you need to go to find Chicken Dolphin?

We caught several last year well within sight of land as we were headed in from offshore. They were swimming around under a large log and we caught them with topwater plugs. A lot of fun but I’m not sure it’s a very predictable fishery in that close.
I’ve found them in 80 - 90 ’ depending on If I’m seeing a weed line or debris floating around.

Unless you find good sized debris they will be where the bull dolphin are. Best to plan 50+ miles.
Yup Badbob should just keep pushing out and go for the slammers. Slingers are fun but go get the meat.

To answer your question, I’ve seen them 12-14 mis out, but only in the late summer.
My comment is more in reference to if you are trying to target dolphin. You’ll find them at the Charleston 60 sometimes but you gotta be lucky.
I used to see them around the boat when diving on the Freddy Day 20 years ago !
